Residual Psychic Transmissions

Many theories have been posited as to the origins of the residual psychic transmissions (RPTs) lingering aboard Arboretum 829, which are able to permeate all known stable-substances and remain, in exceptional cases, for up to 1000 average star cycles. It is likely that they were caused by the presence and actions of techno-sorcerers. Such sorcerers were masters of the ways of technology, so that magic was to them tangible manipulation under the aegis of immense genius. They held sway over waves, fields, and particles at sub-atomic and trans-dimensional levels, and even their mere presence would pollute a place with myriad RPTs. That they may have entered 829 at some point in the distant past is likely, since some of the rarest materials in the universe can still be found there. If not sorcerers, then transmissions may have come from craft with synthesized mutant-star-cores, a few of which DSA field operatives have uncovered among the vines. Depending on the initial magnitude of the source, a given RPT will have a greater or lesser half-life, so that there usually is no way to determine its age based on half-life data. 

As is generally observed, the older an absorbed RPT in any given stable substance, the lesser its effects. With the passing of time comes not only quantitative diminution, but qualitative metamorphosis as observed in the change in effects they have on organisms, so that RPTs remain wildly unpredictable phenomena, for now.
